TAILORING
During third year at WAAPA, I studied a year long class focusing on period accurate tailoring.
I chose the 1930's as inspiration for my suit as it had the most form fitting physique and flattered my father's figure. I created a toile in second year during menswear class that I then fitted and completed all alterations to before starting tailoring. When I started third year, I re-fit the toile to ensure all alterations done were up to date and correct. I decided on a royal blue cashmere, silk and wool blend, this choice made it a lot easier when it came to manipulating and draping the jacket. With the lining, I chose something with a bit of a quirky modern twist, I decided on a blue and gold paisley and striped patterened lining (as shown in image 9).
The whole process from pattern drafting to completion took 18 months of very hard work and dedication and my father has a beautiful suit to show for it.
